A technology service provider has started a new collaboration with a globally recognised manufacturer of ejection seats and aviation safety equipment. This initiative is designed to enhance operational efficiency and prepare the organisation for future demands through modifications to its SAP enterprise structure and other upgrades.
The consultancy has previously delivered several projects for this customer, including the deployment of the PreBilt™ solution. This implementation greatly increased operational visibility, streamlined manual processes, and provided a more intuitive experience for personnel.
Transition to SAP S/4HANA
As part of its digital modernisation, the manufacturer is transitioning from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, selecting a brownfield implementation. This approach called for a review of the existing enterprise structure, which had not changed with one plant and one warehouse, although the company operates across three UK sites.
In early 2024, the consultancy was commissioned to perform a feasibility study and provide customised recommendations in accordance with SAP best practices. The proposal included the completion of the S/4HANA upgrade prior to implementing a revised enterprise structure, suggesting the adoption of two plants and three warehouses.
Upcoming Implementation Phase
With the S/4HANA upgrade almost complete, the customer is now beginning the recommended enterprise structure changes. Additional system enhancements identified during initial scoping are also set for implementation. These include improvements to PreBilt and modifications to SAP to support inter-site stock transfers and Available to Promise (ATP) functionality.
Detailed Assessment and PoC Activities
- Thorough review to support inter-site transfers and ATP requirements.
- Prototype in the sandbox environment demonstrating the proposed structure changes.
- Playback of high-level design to key stakeholders, supported by design files and future-phase recommendations.
- Review of enhancement needs for the PreBilt mobility solution.
- Consensus on the strategy for inventory transfer and master data alignment.
- Clarification of next steps for design and implementation phases.
